The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, like the APEC 2012 Summit in Vladivostok, is an opportunity for the development of promising areas of Russia.
Krasnodar Krai comprises the most important Summer Vacation region of Russia which can attract millions of tourists a year.
Cancun in Mexico was created in 1972 by Government and private developers and now it attracts 10 million people...
The Gold Coast in Australia is the most vibrant and growing region of the country with over half a million people.
In Spain there are several regions in the Mediterranean and Canary Islands (Costa del Sol, Costa Brava, Mallorca, Ibiza...) attracting over 30 million people every year.
In fact, hundreds of thousands of Russians have bought houses in the Mediterranean Sea.
Sochi can create an opportunity both to keep part of that money inside Russia and attract hundreds of thousands of foreigners.
A superhighway connection between the Krasnodar shore (...it should have a market name like the Costa del Sol, the Gold Coast or the Costa Brava) and Moscow would help.
The 2014 olympics will bring lots of Benjamin Franklins. They say money don't make you and don't break you, You just need it to live, however those people useally have a lot of money. You could probly use some drama in the olympics like a (Tonya Harding) scandell. To generate business you have to make it look like your doing a lot of business. Example say you want to go Honky Tonking.Your driving along and you see this night club with only two or three cars parked there. You figure that night club is dead so you keep looking for a busy night club right. So then you see a night club with about twenty cars parked there then you figure thats where the party is lets go there right. Now at first there were just a lot of cars parked there by the owner to make it look busy. Cause and effect. I know I wish I could go there and have fun because there going to have alot of attractive women with athletic bodies. I probly get myself in a lot of trouble thow.
John I am sorry that you feel this. However I suspect that you are not aware of the success of the anti - drugs bodies in some of the sports. For example Tom Boonen, one of the world`s top cyclists, was found to have taken a non-performance enhancing recreational drug `out of season` and has been banned from the Tour de France. He had not broken any of the rules but now that cycling has been considerably cleaned up the TdF organisers are really going the last mile to show they mean business. Which sports and performers had you in mind when you wrote? Are you assuming that Soviet and other sports people have been and remain drugs free?
The Olympics will introduces more people to Russia and hopefully promote additional business ventures, tourism, immigration, good will and other beneficial activities.
In the future, perhaps the football (soccer) World Cup and more big name sporting events would also take place, to include motor sports of all kinds, particularly rally races.
The Olympics is considered the foremost sporting event in the World so it's difficult to top that again unless additional Olympic Game hosting events are won and hosted by Russia in the future. The possibility is always there considering Russia's vast geographic offerings and landscapes that no other nation can match.
If allowed, it may even be possible to host all the Olympic games at Russia sometime in the future. Not very likely given the business nature of the Olympics and the desire to spread the events over several countries. If that was not the case, in the future holding all the Olympics event games in Russia would make for a very interesting Olympics. One possibility I wish the Olympic committee would at least consider given the uniqueness of the geographic landscape for Russia to do it all.
My name is Paolo and I live and I was born in Cortina d'Ampezzo famous ski resort that hosted the Olimpic games in 1956. I'm very happy that Sochi got the games in 2014 because made the best candidature and presentation comparate to the other. I will go soon to visit and to ski in Sochi and I'll be happy to share my experience with the local organizer and give theim some advice. GRANDE SOCHI !!!!
Apart from the material and tourist inflow benefits, its like a MUCH NEEDE shot in the arm for the citizens of this great country still , in some ways, struggling with the post-Soviet trauma!Way to go.Russia!
it will bring lots of economic benefits to the southern part of Russia, billions will pore in to biuld the infrastructure for future generations to enjoy.
Congratulations to the Russians.Since Russia is a sporting country, holding the competition of that nature is overdue, and i believe more jobs will be created and the nation will benefit from such booming economy.

I Congratulate Sochi. I think this beautiful city is the best place for winter games.

I called that wrong. I thought there was no way in hell Russia was going to get it because of some of the attitudes and stereotypes still out there.
Perhaps Russia will finally get the respect she deserves. Perhaps I am a little too pessimistic also.
This is a big step onto the world stage and will only add to Russias growing list of accomplishments.
