Cary Johnston
Cary Johnston joined RT as a news presenter in January 2009.
He began his journalism career in newspapers and radio before anchoring the ITV regional television news programme “Meridian Tonight.”
It was there that he became the first UK journalist to receive the Royal Television Society’s Young Journalist of the Year Award for an investigative report exposing a fraudulent children’s doctor.
He later joined the BBC in London, where he was a reporter for the channel’s radio and television networks.
Cary graduated from the University of Manchester and has a diploma in broadcast journalism from the London College of Communication.
He says RT is the perfect place to put his skills to work: “I am genuinely delighted to be part of such a dynamic and important broadcaster. Russia is an exciting place to be right now, and as a foreigner living here, it throws up all sorts of fascinating surprises.”
Away from broadcasting, Cary’s Jamaican heritage makes him partial to spicy food. He is also a keen chess player, a mediocre saxophonist (“the neighbours are not impressed!”) and likes football, politics, and science-fiction.
