Kevin Owen

Kevin Owen is a news anchor and presenter for RT.

In September 2008 he was awarded one of Russia's most prestigious TV awards for ‘Best News Anchor.’ He was the first foreign national ever to receive the honour, which was presented by the Russian Television Academy, TEFI, at a ceremony at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

Since joining RT, Kevin has handled many of the channel’s biggest stories. In 2006, he hosted a marathon set of live broadcasts during RT’s weeklong coverage of the G8 Summit in St. Petersburg. Kevin recalls the most bizarre moment of that memorable week:

“Coming face to face with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and her team … they were crammed aboard a golf buggy to take them to a venue in a hurry!”

He was regularly seen on Sky News in London prior to coming to RT in 2006. He also anchored the World Briefing programme on the BBC's World Service. However, he says his move to Moscow is his "most exciting job yet."

“RT is a great place to work. We've got a really professional news team with loads of enthusiasm! We're connecting with a global news audience and the icing on the cake is that day in, day out, we genuinely enjoy what we do – despite the weird hours we all have to work to keep the news on air 24/7!”

His early career involved fronting the BBC Wales nightly news programme “Wales Today” and anchoring four other British regional commercial TV stations. Kevin has a post-graduate diploma in broadcast journalism from Cardiff University.

When he’s not working, Kevin enjoys house renovations and DIY. Changing his car is also at the top of his list of hobbies.
