Svetlana Kurakina

Svetlana Kurakina is RT’s political correspondent who covers landmark international events around the world.

She often reports form the Kremlin, focusing on high-profile political gatherings and groundbreaking decisions. Her work has included the coverage of the G8 summits in St. Petersburg and Heiligendamm.

As part of her diverse reporting activities for RT, Svetlana was granted a rare opportunity to interview Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to discuss important issues such as the Islamic Republic’s stance on nuclear non-proliferation and relations with Russia and the West.

In August 2006 Svetlana covered the Lebanon-Israel crisis, reporting live from Beirut and travelling across war-torn Lebanon to tell the stories of air strike survivors and the plight of the country's refugees.

However, Svetlana’s work is not limited solely to political reporting. As part of RT's special series, Svetlana travelled to Russia's South Urals and Siberia's Lake Baikal to provide a range of in-depth reports on economic and cultural life in the regions.

Svetlana began her path into the world of international journalism as a news assistant at Sky News in London.

She graduated from UK’s University of Central Lancashire with a first class degree in journalism and completed her academic portfolio with an MA in politics form the University of London. She speaks English and French fluently, in addition to her native Russian.

Svetlana is a keen horse rider. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and traveling.
