Russian cinema in spotlight in Cannes

Russia is looking to boost its movie-making capacity by opening its first-ever Russian pavilion at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. A newly-built 50-square-metre hall with a terrace facing the sea is aimed at showcasing Russian cinema, which celebrates its 100-year anniversary this year, across the globe.

The long-awaited opening of the Russian pavilion drew in hundreds of film lovers from all over the world.
