Museum mania hits Moscow

Published 17 May, 2008, 22:12

The capital's museums have been packed with visitors over the weekend as tens of thousands of people took advantage of free entry and late opening. More than a hundred galleries and cultural centres in Moscow stayed open until 2am on Sunday morning as part of the 'Night of Museums' event.

There's stiff competition among the galleries. Some are putting on theatre performances, music and fireworks to attract visitors.

The initiative is part of the International Day of Museums, which is being marked in145 countries worldwide.
