Dental visit costs Utah woman her home

Published 28 May, 2008, 12:08

A woman in Utah in the United States has lost her home over an unpaid dentist’s bill. Sonya Capri Ramos owed just $US 68, but her home was sold without her knowledge to pay off the debt.

The house was auctioned despite her having serviced a $51,000 mortgage for three years, reports ABC News.

Moreover, the house changed hands for just $1,550 at a sheriff’s auction.

The story is made more bizarre by the fact that Ramos and her family only found out about the sale two years after the auction.

The woman still lives in the disputed property, paying the mortgage and fighting a legal battle to reclaim ownership.
