Thieves take Kurt Cobain’s ashes

The ashes of Kurt Cobain, ex-leader of grunge band Nirvana, have been stolen. They were taken from the house of his widow Courtney Love in California, according to a British Sunday newspaper. Love told the News of the World she was “suicidal” after the theft.

Love had kept the ashes of her husband in a pink teddy-bear bag together with a lock of his hair.

She told the paper that the ashes vanished a couple of weeks ago, along with clothes and jewellery worth thousands of dollars.

Love said the ashes were all she had left of Kurt: “I used to take them everywhere with me just so I could feel Kurt was still with me,” the widow said.

“I find it disgusting and right now I'm suicidal,” she added. “If I don't get them back I don't know what I'll do.”

In 1994 Kurt Cobain killed himself with a shotgun while high on heroin. Some of his ashes were scattered in a Buddhist temple in New York, while others were left at his home in Washington State. Courtney Love kept the rest.
