Indian elephants take a dip in Siberian river

Published 25 June, 2008, 15:58

In the Siberian city of Novosibirsk, swimmers enjoying a dip in the Ob River have witnessed an extraordinary spectacle. Some tropical visitors – a pair of Indian elephants – have hit the city beach.

The two grey giants, Jenny and Magda, are guests in Novosibirsk as part of an international circus troop.

Circus workers came up with the idea of letting the animals wash off in the Ob River and got permission from the authorities.

Despite their size, local residents received assurances they were safe to swim alongside.
