Archbishop’s posh offroader stolen in Moscow

Published 27 January, 2009, 14:57

Could a car thief, who stole a $US 45,000 offroader in Moscow last night, have ever imagined that it belongs to, of all things, the Church?

Archbishop Kirill of Yaroslavl and Rostov, who came to the capital to take part in the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church to elect a new Russian Patriarch, will have to turn from heavenly issues to a very earthly one.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, belonging to his eparchy, cannot be tracked by satellite as it has not been equipped with a corresponding system. It had only an antitheft alarm, Russia’s Interfax news agency reports.

Police have put the car on the search list.
