‘Video game’ for Bolshoi prima ballerina

Bolshoi Theatre prima ballerina Svetlana Zakharova will dance in a ‘video game’ ballet.
The new ballet, “Zakharova. The super game,” was composed especially for the prima, and Thursday’s performance in her honor.
The director of the unexpected and courageous project “The super game” is the 29-year-old Italian choreographer Francesco Ventriglia, discovered by Zakharova in Milan’s “La Scala” theatre.
“Once Svetlana saw my piece “Black,” which she liked very much and wanted to dance in it. I made a new version for her," says Ventriglia, speaking about the origins of his mutual creative relations with the Russian ballerina.
Despite his age, Ventriglia has already managed to make a name for himself as the author of several non-standard pieces on rather exotic, social themes. Among them, the ballet “Loneliness of a Giant,” about racial hatred, and last year’s ballet about madness titled “Norma.”
“Super game” is continuing their cooperation. In this ballet, Zakharova becomes the lead of the nonexistent virtual world. The ballet features the ballerina completing the game’s levels step-by-step. In the end, the soloist reaches the overall objective – finding and defeating the enemy Chronos, the master of time.
Subordinating and operating the time – this is what the ballet aims to reveal. “Of course it’s difficult," the choreographer says. However, the ballerina says the idea of “the Super game" is close and clear to her. “I believe I can bring the main idea of performance to spectators.”
The program of the evening with Svetlana Zakharova also includes several well-known pieces of modern choreographers: Francesco Ventriglia’s “Black”, Kshishtof Pastor’s “Tristan and Isolde” and “Revelation” by Motoko Hirayama.
