Rubina Ali Qureshi, child star of 'Slumdog Millionaire', was allegedly put on sale by her father. Rafiq Qureshi tried to illegally give his daughter up for adoption for ₤200,000, the British News of the World reports.

The father of nine-year-old Rubina was provoked by undercover journalists, posing as a wealthy family from Dubai who wanted to adopt the girl. Rafiq allegedly offered the illegal deal of his celebrity daughter to the couple, who did not arise the man’s suspicions, in exchange for ₤200,000 ($295,900 US). The sum was backed up by the celebrity status of his ‘Oscar child’.

Pleading the need for an escape of the slum life, Rafiq reportedly told the fake Dubai sheikh that he had “to consider what’s best for him, his family and Rubina’s future”. The reports in the Indian press also say that Rafiq claimed his family did not earn anything from the Oscar winning film.
