Manu Chao to hit Moscow

Published 21 June, 2009, 17:29

Fans are preparing to welcome one of the most popular Latino singers of the present time. Manu Chao will give his two concerts on June 23 and June 24 in St. Petersburg and Moscow respectively.

Chao is well-known for his radical political criticism. He often dictates terms to the organizers of his concerts, urging them to make tickets affordable. When Manu is not involved in big music festivals, he plays in a bar near his house in Barcelona absolutely for free!

Manu Chao is now on top of popularity. In Latin America, each of his performances is a full-house – over 100,000 people come to see him live on stage at the stadiums of major Latin-American cities.

His latest album “La Radiolina”, which adds more guitars and rock beats to Manu’s traditional sound, scored the highest rating in the UK. It is the most versatile album ever recorded by Manu Chao to date.

Manu Chao, who took the long road over a musical career including punk-rock, reggae and Latin aesthetics in music, still finds fans all over the world. In the new program to be performed in Russia, there’s everything Manu is loved for – the rhythms and melodies of Latin America, elements of world music, sampled sounds, a sense of humor, emotions and political statements.

In the summer of 2008, Manu tested his new material during his first big tour across the USA. At the Californian Coachella festival, he blew up 90,000 people, having appeared on stage wrapped in a banner which read: “Immigrants are not criminals!” and calling to fight violence with education.

Chao’s concerts will take place in the Glav Club in St.Pete on June 23, and in the Green Theatre of Moscow’s Gorky Park on June 24.
