Russian coach Valery Gazzaev has won the Ukrainian SuperCup in his first official match with Dinamo Kiev.

The match of champions Dinamo and cup winners Vorskla Poltava ended in a scoreless draw, but the Blue-and-Whites were better in a penalty shootout, taking it 4-2.

“I congratulate my boys who won the SuperCup. I enjoyed the game. But I think we should’ve accomplished our goal during the 90 minutes of play and avoided the shootout,” Valery Gazzaev said.

Dinamo has won the SuperCup for the fourth time in history, which is a record for Ukraine.

The most successful Russian coach of the last decade, Valery Gazzaev joined Dinamo ahead of the season, replacing his countryman Yury Semin, who moved to Lokomotiv Moscow.

On his arrival Gazzaev voiced his ambitious plans of claiming the Champions League with Dinamo in the next three years, and he’ll have his first shot at the trophy this autumn.

The maestro already has one European trophy under his belt, as his CSKA Moscow team triumphed in the 2004-2005 UEFA Cup.
