Russia sends more aid to cyclone-hit Myanmar

Published 11 May, 2008, 10:36

A second Russian plane carrying humanitarian aid has arrived in cyclone-hit Myanmar. The emergency ministry cargo includes food, tents and medical supplies.

Official Myanmar estimates say cyclone Nargiz killed more than 23,000 people and left around 40,000 homeless.

The United Nations says that up to two million people could be affected by the natural disaster and conditions may worsen.

Heavy winds brought phone lines down and destroyed electricity networks leaving populated areas isolated.
