Igor Akinfeev could be on the verge of joining his national teammate Andrey Arshavin in Arsenal, suggest reports in the British media.
If CSKA Moscow approve the keeper's move to the North London side early next week, the 23-year-old is likely to become the most expensive player at his position in the Premiership.
Akinfeev, who gained further prominence after Russia's solid showing at Euro 2008, is said to be worth a record €15 million.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich previously shelled out over €10 million back in 2004 to grab Peter Cech from Rennes.
The Gunners have seen Andrey Arshavin integrate into their framework successfully, but have been found lacking since the departure of goalkeeper Jans Lehmann. Arsenal finished fourth in the league with Manuel Almunia in goal.
Another CSKA star at the verge of moving to Foggy Albion is Yury Zhirkov. The Russian footballer of 2008 is close to signing a $28 million deal with Chelsea.
