sunnymarky asked:

So what if you are //a white Westerner living in one of the very richest EU countries// ?

And my reply is this:

The point with regard to myself is that NATO is predominantly being used for land- and resource-grabbing wars along with all the political blackmail that goes with it. Consequently, I don't face any personal risk of being contemplated as "collateral damage" or conceived as a "terrorist" or "illegal combatant" as long as I stay here in my politically tepid EU country richly benefitting from Western imperialism overall. Thus, aptly summarised: Imperialism's "Rogue state" concept applies neither to my country, nor to my mind (well, maybe my state of mind could qualify as rogue, given my fiercely anti-NATO stance).

The point with regard to sunnymarky is that s/he should understand the real significance of NATO's propagandistic bluster which s/he parrots admirably. If, as NATO indeed suggests, it is in the protection business (addressing >> freedom >>, allegedly), the truth is revealed more or less inadvertently. As most of us know, organised "protection" infallibly comes with coercion and deception.

Want to make anti-Russian noises? Fine, but keep in mind that the big bourgeoisie in charge of NATO doesn't give a damn about any petty bourgeois sob-stories or other delusions -- if in doubt, go ask the Georgians. However, there is one thing I do have to say for renowned Mr. Saakashvili: That guy really puts his neck-tie where his mouth is!

UK rich? Yes we were, Have you heard of the recession going on? with house price dropping,The pound diving against the euro,Banks and finance companies collapsing.Ever heard of Northern Rock and Bradford and bingley?
Each time you come on you are full of rubbish.
In your mind the UK economy is not in problem as long as daddy can still afford your pocket money.

So what if you are? Nato is a choice, you call it "philanthropic"buddy" and can hate and fear it all you want , but it is and will continue to be a bastien of freedom and defence that countries that were ruled by the empire that Putin regrets the passing of want to join. So your "prejudice and gullibility" or any others who place trust in a Russian government whos disregard for neighbours is blatant is well misplaced .

Regular writes - So why should I approve of NATO being broken up this would just leave former member countries weak and venerable to hostile forces for instance the Baltic countries could not stand up to Russia if their defence depended solely on their own tiny armies.

Why should Russia invade...?
To steal oil?
To impose communism?
To turn the Balts against it?

All these talks are just an excuse to impose that artificial divide within Europe...exclude Europe and impose non-European's diktat on it!

As long as NATO remains, Europe will never be an independent Economic entity...!

i have already posted 7 comments on this page and this is number 8 so i will make this my last, the things that we can say about NATO means that we would have to talk about other nations and how their leaders have betrayed them and there are many of them in europe and the people do not seem to get a say in any of it,the european union has a group within it called COMMON PURPOSE whose real agenda is to get all or most of the european countries to sign up to the american union and become part of the NEW WORLD ORDER which will become a fashist police controlled state and nato will play it's part in all of this.
tony       October 3, 2008, 07:06
nato does not will not and has not made the world a safe place,so switch of your tv news and put your newspaper in the trash can and do some research of your own and you will find that of the western media only prints what the UK, USA and ISRAEL wants it to print and if they do not tell you a lie they certainly do not tell you the truth, thats why when we make comments we should make sure that it is not something that we have recently heard from BBC WORLD,CNN or FOX NEWS especially FOX NEWS,because you are never going to get the light of events with these news outlets or it's like,so my answer to you is get real,

As a citizen of a member country it makes me feel like my tax dollars are being wasted. So why should my tax dollars support NATO, which America doesn't need for its defense. Anyone want to take on the US Navy, anyone?

As for Russia "invading" Georgia, NATO or not Russia would've gone in. With US armies stranded, NATO failing in Afghanistan, who the fuck was going to fight Russia in Georgia? As for nukes, I don't think anyone is crazy enough to use them. Remember what everyone did to North Korea when they "tested" a nuke? Re-cap: first time North Korea nearly faces an actual invasion by US/China/Japan/Russia/South Korea. Very bad odds.

Regular_John is worried about Russian Strategic Bombers patrolling near our air space.

How about us buzzing them continously none stop even when the Russians unilaterally suspended their own patrols?

Do you not think that it would have been a smarter move by us along with the rest of NATO to have suspended our flights too when the Russians suspended theirs and not whine when they resumed their flights again?

Man you are so one sided its unbelievable."Why are they flying near Hull, so what if we fly arround their borders after all were are NATO the all powerful, how dare they resume their flights in response to us continueing ours"

Okay lets talk about the other great democracy in that region that wants to join NATO.

Ukraine. We are getting very interesting development coming out of there ranging from illegal weapons trade to harassment of political opponents.

Its funny that it took a pirate attack to expose the illegal breaking of UN embargo on sells of weapons to Sudan. The talk is now that the presidents signature is on the deal.

Then the harassment of the prime minister. How come it is now that she is questioned on the poisoning affair?

Then the freedom of speech. How odd that all the TV stations should close down just as she was due to have a live broadcast.
It seems that the greatest danger to Ukraine comes from within and these that are pulling on his strings.

As a citizen of a member country it makes me feel safer. So why should I approve of NATO being broken up this would just leave former member countries weak and venerable to hostile forces for instance the Baltic countries could not stand up to Russia if their defence depended solely on their own tiny armies.
Do you think Russia would have invaded Georgia if it were part of NATO I don’t think so.
Why should members of NATO give up their mutual security just to please outsiders many of whom are not our friends. And bear us ill will.

Recently a Russian blackjack bomber flew from the Volga region towards the coast of England it took up a low level attack position and set a course for the city of Hull and only veered away 20 miles from British Air space this is a dangerous practice any miscalculations by the crew could trigger a defensive missile launch.

Russia has been buzzing us for a couple of years usually with the 95 bear this is a prop bomber top speed 600 miles per hour it’s easily detected and monitored.
Using the Blackjack is a real escalation this can travel at 1800 miles per hour and carries nuclear bombs 100 kilotons.

Medvedev recently said there will be no new cold war I think it’s already been going on for at least two years.

i know that this column is about nato and it is everyone's right to express their opinions but please let us see a little more logic to what they are talking about and also do a little more research before putting pen to paper otherwise it makes others amongst us sound pretty dim, and we also like to feel that what we have written is worthy of scrutiny and maybe some critisism,so let us talk a little more about nato and the reasons why it is a failure, and what most already know is that it is controlled by america and the evidence is in plain site, first lets take iraq it was not a war it was an execution of a people and the theft of oil and then we have afghanistan this was not about oil because they do not have any least not that we know of,it is about opium and now that it is under american control the output of opium is more than twenty times more, and this is a trllion dollar industry for the CIA and MI5 it funds all their black projects and where is NATO while this is going on you might ask,and while america and britain are perpertrating all these attrocities on all these people with depleted uraniam ammunition and raping the women and their little babies they broken all the laws of the GENEVA CONVENTION and still nato is nowhere to be seen, and this not any random carelessness commited by the troops because they have orders to do whatever they like and it comes straight from the top and the truth of this comes from some of the raw recruits that got sick to their stomachs and went AWOL,you see for more than 60 years america has not had any soldiers only serial killers perverts and child molesters in uniform and that is not to say that there is no gullable missfits among them, you see when it really comes down to it america can do whatever the hell it pleases and there isn't a damn thing that nato will do about it or anybody else either.

Sunnymarky: Deeply regret to inform you that I hate NATO a whole lot more than I fear it. Please also mind that -- with the exception of the war-crazed US and its UK sidekick -- I do not fear its member states either. A white Westerner myself (living in one of the very richest EU countries at that) means I'm not really "entitled" to ever be found on the receiving end of imperialism's deadly violence.

No, my problem with NATO stems from my regrettably weak commitment to petty-bourgeois prejudice and gullibility. If, by your standards, NATO constitutes some philanthropic society -- please enjoy, buddy.
sunnymarky       October 1, 2008, 12:10
Isnt it just great this posters who fear NATO, Fear countries joining an organization that collectively protect themselves with a waiting list to join.
Must be the Russian Feds mouthpieces trolling their anti democratic views , plenty of friends you will find here surely,
tony       October 1, 2008, 07:43
although this column is about nato and there is plenty to say about nato,i would like to thank RUSSIA TODAY for allowing people to express their views no matter how extreme or controversial because when we make comments or critisize another persons country its not about it's people like for instance the USA who's are the innocent victims of one the most corrupt governments in history who control nato, and there is nothing lower down the evolutionary scale than the bush family crawling on this planet, together with the clintons the have syphoned off trillions of dollars in gold, according to benjamin fulford who is usually a very reliable source of inside information this gold will fund a facility called project bluebeam which is a cabal of satan worshipping nazi fashists, this gold really belongs to russia, india, japan and china and this would be another reason to trgger WORLD WAR THREE so that they could have reason to renage on their debt's,and there is a great possibility that you could have civil war and martial law in the USA,all i can say is may god help the innocent if there is one.
tony       September 30, 2008, 08:35
this is in addition to an article already which also has a great deal bearing on what has already been said, although britain, israel and america are the siamese triplets of genecide of more than 26 million people worldwide including rape and torture there are still things that they cannot do under the umbrella of nato, but nato can coverly cover up the evidence, there has been the typhoons in asia and the earthquakes in japan and china which beleive was orchestrated by america through the haarp antenna in alaska, of this there is no doubt in my mind,it only requires one to do some research of their own to know that this is not idle malicious gossip, and to be aware that america could be planning another false flag operation in the form of an alien invasion, this is why everyone should now be very aware.
